TRY AN AFTER-MARKET SENDER FROM A PARTS STORE.....I'VE FOUND THAT OUT OF 4 SENDERS, FROM 4 DIFFERENT STORES, FROM 4 DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS FOR MY '77 JEEP, NONE READ EXACTLY THE SAME ON THE GAUGE AT OPERATING TEMP

THE GAUGE ITSELF MAY BE BAD

IF YOU WANNA SEE THE ACTUAL TEMP WITHOUT USING THE VEHICLE'S OWN INFO.....FOR PEACE OF MIND

I HAVE A PURCHASED A REAL INEXPENSIVE INFRA-RED THERMOMETER...............SO WHAT IF IT'S NOT PERFECT TO WITHIN A FRACTION OF A DEGREE!..........IT WORKS WELL FOR ME!

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/OEM-Infrared-thermometer/_/N-26lq?itemIdentifier=951642_0_0_

YOU CAN AIM THIS PUPPY AT YOUR WATER OUTLET (WHERE THE BIG HOSE COMES OUTTA THE ENGINE AND GOES TO THE TOP OF THE RADIATOR AND SEE WHAT THE ACTUAL TEMP IS.

YOU CAN ALSO "SHOOT" THE TOP OF THE RADIATOR NEAR THE UPPER HOSE AND SEE HOW HOT IT IS WHEN IT ENTERSTHE SHOOT THE LOWER HOSE AND SEE HOW COOL IT IS WHEN IT LEAVES.

BEING THAT IT HAS A LASER TO AIM IT----YOU CAN TAKE THE CAT'S TEMP AS HE TRIES TO CHASE THE DOT ALL OVER THE GARAGE!

I BOUGHT MINE FIRST-US TO VERIFY THE ACTUAL TEMP OF MY MAMA'S AND PAP'S 1986 THUNDERBIRD........I HATE "C" AND "H" WITH NO REAL NUMBERS ON A GAUGE!.........I'VE NEEDED ONE ALL ALONG ANYWAY

I LIKE MECHANICAL GAUGES---IN MY '77 CJ 5 THE FACTORY ELECTRIC "H/C" GAUGE IS IN THE "7 O'CLOCK" POSITION OF MY SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER.........I HAVE INSTALLED A 2ND "REAL" MECHANICAL TEMP GAUGE AS WELL (WITH NUMBERS!) IT'S THE BOTTOM LEFT 2 INCH GAUGE IN THE GROUP OF "4"............................ABOVE IT IS A MECHANICAL OIL PRESSURE GAUGE, TAKING THE PLACE OF THE ORIGINAL ELECTRIC ONE

MECHANICAL GAUGES ARE MORE ACCURATE THAN ELECTRIC ONES---IN FACT, THEY ARE USED TO TEST FOR ACTUAL READINGS, WHEN DIAGNOSING ELECTRIC STUFF

MECHANICAL GAUGES WERE IN FULL FORCE, BACK IN THE DAY, WHY DO WE NOW RELY ON ELECTRIC CRAP NOW???

.........HECK..........DON'T WANNA BUY A INFRA-RED GUN?

IF YOU KNOW A RESTAURANT MANAGER, THEY USE THESE TO CHECK TO SEE HOW HOT THE CHOW IS.........PULL UP TO THE BACK DOOR, WHEN THEY ARE ON BREAK AND LET THEM SHOOT IT!

MY WIFE MANAGES A RESTAURANT, WE VERIFIED MY RADIATOR'S ABILITY TO COOL ON MY JEEP, A LONG TIME BEFORE I BROKE DOWN AND CAME OFF OF THE $30 FOR MY OWN..........I'M NOT JUST SHOOTING YOU A LINE!

WHERE THERE'S A WILL, THERE IS A WAY!

YOUR TURN

I DID NOT ABANDON YOU!

SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH THE SITE AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN GETTING NOTIFIED WITH AN EMAIL OF ACTIVITY ON POSTS WE HAVE ANSWERED.

I ANSWER QUITE A FEW, BUT NOT LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER GUYS!

I JUST NOW GOT THE NOTIFICATIONS AND I'M DOING WHAT I CAN TO CATCH UP. LOTS AND LOTS OF MAIL!

IF YOU GROUNDED THE SENDER WIRE AND THE GAUGE WENT TO THE TOP END---YOUR GAUGE MOST LIKELY IS OK----THE CIRCUIT IS PROBABLY OK TOO

IT REALLY SOUNDS LIKE THE SENDER IS THE PROBLEM---OR IT'S CONNECTION MAY NOT BE GOOD

I'VE HAD BAD EXPERIENCES (OTHERS TOO) WITH A NEW ITEM BEING BAD. LIKE THIS

I FOUND MY IGNITION MODULE WAS BAD, I HAD IT TESTED AT THE PARTS STORE. I PURCHASED A NEW ONE AND INSTALLED IT. IT STILL WOULD NOT FIRE UP!

SO.I REALLY TORE THRU MY JEEPS WIRING FOR 2 DAYS, WHEN IT STILL WOULD NOT FIRE UP.I ONLY CRIED WHEN NO ONE WAS LOOKING. A FRIEND SUGGESTED THAT I GO BACK AND TEST MY NEW. BAD. MODULE!

BINGO. NOW I TEST THE NEW ONES BEFORE I LEAVE THE STORE

THE SENDER IS PROBABLY NOT REAL EXPENSIVE, SO I SUGGEST GETTING ANOTHER ONE FROM A DIFFERENT STORE, IF IT WORKS, TAKE THE OTHER ONE BACK

SOME PEOPLE WOULD SUGGEST ONLY GENUINE FORD PARTS.I ONLY GO THAT ROUTE WHEN I'M AT WITS END.I SELDOM HAVE PROBLEMS WITH AFTER-MARKET STUFF. IT'S BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT IT'S EZer TO RETURN THEM TOO, WITH LITTLE HASSLE, AS COMPARED WITH RETURNING SOMETHING TO A STEALERSHIP

. MAYBE THAT'S JUST ME

LEMME KNOW HOW THINGS ARE GOING. SORRY ABOUT THE BLACK HOLE I WAS IN
