steering groaning noise?

Why is there a groaning noise when I turn left or right and feel a bump in the steering wheel. Could it be the steering damper? Where is the damper located? The belt was replaced and the front end was completely checked.All tires were checked and balanced.

The groaning is from air in the power steering pump that hasn't bled out yet, or the fluid level is low. For rough steering, assuming all the ball joints and tie rod ends are okay, look for a binding universal joint in the steering shaft. Those are usually inside the cab but look under the hood too. Ford has WAY more suspension and steering parts that separate leading to crashes so noises and clunks are never anything to ignore. If you don't find the cause of the rough steering, have it inspected again at a different shop.
