I have a Ford f-150, V8 Triton. I was driving earlier when it started making a whistling noise. I pulled off and shifted to neutral, the noise stopped. Shifted back into drive and the noise started again. I reached me destination and stopped, when I went to back up it would not move. I let it set for a while and cool off. It started working again after that until the transmission fluid got hot, then it stopped working again. I repeated this process a couple more times. I left it sitting in a parking lot. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Is the trans fluid full and clean? Has the check engine light come on?
