truck wont move

driving my 2wd 98 ford explorer and heard a ping noise and the truck will not move at all I tried to look up to see if the drive shaft is turning and it isnt in any gear. what is wrong with it?

If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned. If not, you need to double check to make sure the linkage to the transmission is connected and working. Finally, make sure the trans fluid is full and clean. Other than that, the trans will need checked by a tech.
