I just rebuilt the engine on my daughters 98 esort zx2. Started it up and the exhaust manifold was almost instantly hot to the touch. Then after 3 minutes of idling the car dies as if it had run out of fuel pulled code p0505 iac fault. That doesn't concern me near as much as the head and exhaust getting hot when the engine temp is cold why am I only building heat there and why so fast?

The timing marks on the balancer should line up with the casting marks correct? I will go ahead and get my timing tool out and do it again. Is there any way to keep the exhaust cam from doing that?

There is a plug you remove and insert a punch, which I use to lock it at tdc.

As far as the cam. It is hard to make sure it is lined up. Rotate the motor 3 times when done to confirm the marks.

Ok I have the tool for timing it and when I lock it at tdc dose it matter on what stroke or will the pcm take care of that? Is there a way to prime the vct so that it stays put and spins with the cam?
