1998 Dodge Ram transmission shifting

When I pull out in my truck it shifts from 1st to 2nd with no problems, but in order to get it to shift into drive I have to lift off the gas and then back on the gas. Once the truck hits drive it runs perfectly until I slow and it shifts back into 2nd. Once It goes back to 2nd I have to start the process of lifting off the gas and back on it again all over again.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the kick-down cable between the throttle body and transmission. It likely is sticking.

A weak map sensor or a partially clogged catalytic converter can cause this problem because it created less vacuum inside the engine. Here is a guide to help confirm the issue.

Here is the location of the MAP sensor so you can swap it out. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
