I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. I changed the steering column out and now when I try to turn the key. it doesn,t want to turn. Is there something I am missing.

This may sound like a stupid question but when you changed the column did you leave the ignition cylinder in it or replace it. I guess I am asking what keys are you using for the new column

Same ignition from old.
I bought the column from a private owner, who was parting out his old truck. same year and model.

I guess you would have to see if the ignition cylinder will turn or if the switch is seized.

If I take it out the ignition switch away from the column, it turns no problem. When I place it back into the column, It doesn,t turn.

Well the cylinder is separate from the cylinder. When the cylinder is out try to turn the switch with a flat screwdriver.

Pull the column lock lever up so the pin on the back of the switch goes into the curved slot. Gravity can suck the slide down.
