A mechanic told me the engine is interference type and most likely caused major engine damage. But i, ve also been told that the 3.0 liter in the dodges are non-interference type. Which is right?

The 3.0L in your van is a Mitsubishi engine and is not an interference engine. Thanks to a recent house fire, I'm sitting in my '88 Grand Caravan at this moment using the library's wireless internet. My water pump went out about ten years ago after giving me a couple of months warning. There was no need to be concerned because I knew the valves would not be damaged.

The other 3.0L engines CJ listed are not the same as yours. Those were used in the Dodge Stealth which was also a Mitsubishi product. It's the same as the Mitsubishi 3000GT. The cylinder heads are different than yours.
