Started to charge the ac compressor would not kick in so it would not take charge friend said we could short the compressor to get the clutch to kick in so the ac would take charge now the van will not start everthing still works electonically no fuses blown u can hear the relays working but motor will not turn over

You probably blew a fuse or fusible link that you haven't found yet. You shouldn't have to just the compressor. The first half of a pound will go in without the compressor and that will be enough pressure to trigger the compressor on. Don't try to put any refrigerant in unless you have the system under vacuum at the time. You can't have air mixed in.
