I've got the old belt off, and the new one almost on. I just need to get the belt on the tensioner, and I seem to be having a hard time. What would be the easiest way to do this?

You didn't bother to list the engine size. The tensioner is either spring-loaded or has a lock nut on the side and a bolt that must be loosened to allow the pulley to drop down. Use a wrench or 1/2" drive breaker bar to pivot the spring-loaded pulley. Loosen the pull-bolt about a half inch, then loosen the lock nut in the center of the tensioner pulley and let it fall down, install the belt, then run the pull-bolt back up to tighten that type of tensioner pulley.
