Transmission jerks while sifting gears and at times slips out of gear like its in neutral at the same time engine light comes on and engine rpms run high should I change the trans filter and fluid to solve this problem?

check fluid first, then have trans guy run a scan on it. if fluid is brown or black it may be time for a rebuild.

It worked just fine until I accidentally slammed the gear-shifter into park while driving, then a few days later it started to act up!
