Distributor Cap

I took my Chrysler to a mechanic to be diagnosed and they told me that I need to replace the distributor, distributor cap, and rotor in order for it to start firing up, if I were to just to change the distributor cap and rotor would it fire up?

I would need more info to be able to try to answer that correctly. What engine is in it? What is the car doing? The more info the better. Thanks
