When shifting from 2 wd to 4 wd high range there is a hard fast grinding noise that lasts for about 1/2 second. It goes into 4 wheel drive but grindes when it goes in. Any Idea what is the cause?

it may be an internal tcase problem. you have to try to isolate where the noise is. it could also be a slow encoder motor or shifter on axle.
