what caused my electral system to completly fail?

my 1998 chevy tracker experenced a complete electrical sys.failure.DEAD!.battery is good 12.9 volts.nothing works,lights,horn,radio.nothing.cant even get it out of park to move it.can you help? thanks ray manning
