If I just replaced my engine, should the new mileage show up on the dash? I just had an engine put in my car and it's still says the old engine mileage. I bought the engine used with 70,000 miles on it. The old engine had 111,000 miles. when I picked the car up yesterday, it still says 111,000 miles. Why is that?

The mileage does not change just because you changed your engine. It's the mileage for the car it's against the law to roll the mile's back new engine or not.

Why would you expect that to happen? The mileage is stored in the computer and it's a felony to disguise the original mileage anyway.

Thank you for you answers. I didn't know what to expect. I don't know a thing about cars. I just assume that the new engine mileage would take over the old engine mileage. Silly me!:)

The mileage is representative of the entire car. You can record the current mileage and tell any prospective buyers of when the engine was put in.
