how to know if your fuel pump went bad?

My car was making a loud ticking noise for a couple days and the engine started making a knocking noise when I went to drive it the car was rattling and would not accelerate then it froze up and cut of now it won't stay on for more than two seconds.

what engine? you'd better have a mechanic look at it. on craigslist under services there are mechanics that come to where your at listings.

The engine is a 6 cylinder engine

Engine knocking noise are not caused by fuel pump going bad. Have you checked your oil level? You could have a bad bearing causing the knocking noise and that could mean bad news, a failing engine.
