my boyfriends 98 2.2L 4 cylinder cavilier is making a clunking sound when he starts it and gives it gas. he took the valve cover off and all the rocker arms and lifters and everything is intact, any ideas whats wrong with it?

may be internal failure. is the oil level good??? when was it last serviced????
