o2 sensor

i just had my o2 sensor changed on my 1998 chevy astro 124000 miles afterrward i took the car for an inspection they said they couldnt get a read on the computer and that there was an exhaust leak i called the mechanic he said he would have to weld the o2 sensor in place is this posssible

It is possible to weld it, but it won't come out again. If you need a new one in the future, that part of the exhaust system will need replaced.

Before having it done, make sure that is where the leak is coming from, and as far as the computer, that sounds like a problem between the computer and the scanner, not the O2 sensor.
