REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

Drain the coolant to a level below the thermostat. Recover the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
NOTICE: When adding coolant, use DEX-COOL (R) coolant. If silicated coolant is added to the system, premature engine, heater core or radiator corrosion may result. In addition, the engine coolant will require change sooner-at 50,000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months.
Remove the air inlet to the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
Disconnect the surge tank inlet pipe from the thermostat housing.
If the coolant outlet is being replaced, disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the coolant outlet.
Remove the 2 bolts from the coolant outlet.
Remove the coolant outlet.
Remove the thermostat.
Clean the mating surfaces.
