My 1998 Buick Skylark starts hard and usually activates the passive security feature. It may take an hour to finally get it to start and it seems to run normally. Local mechanics have determined that it is a dirty MAF and the car starts normally after the wires are cleaned. After the car sits overnight, the problem returns and cleaning is again necessary. The mechanics are convinced that the MAF is not bad because theproblem is resolved by cleaning the sensor but have no answer as to why the problem returns within 24 hours. Can I unplug the sensor and see how the car responds for a couple of days to prove that the sensor is bad?

Are you getting a security light on or flashing when this happens?
