My 1998 528i will not run with a maf plugged in. Got a new one, still will not run with MAF plugged in. Checked for holes or leaks, none. Any suggestions or options.

Has a scan tool been hooked up yet? Scanning for faults will be the next thing to do to be sure you aren't just throwing parts at it.

Had the codes pulled. P1010 Mass air circuit or vacuum leak. I am missing the tube which connects from the boot to the icv. I have plugged the boot solid, but would this tube be vital enough to mess up the MAF? Also, I cleaned the MAF and I can get it to idle, but the second I put it in gear or step on the throttle slightly, car dies and then will not start again without sputtering and missing until I disconnect the maf

Update. Replaced the rubber tubing that connect the air intake boot to the ICV. Problem solved. Transmission started shifting smooth and it runs great. Thx
