As I was driving the car all of the sudden started reving high and the transmission light turned on as if I put the car to manual shifting and also the check engine light had been on for a few days prior. Is this a common problem? Any idea what it may be? Would that cause the check engine light to light up?

Any help would be great and an estimate cost to repair.

Sounds like an internal failure in the trans. It will turn the light on. Estimate for an overhaul is between 2200-3000 depending on hard parts.

It seems to run fine now, yet the check engine light is still on, could it still be the trans needs to be overhauled?

Problems never fix themselves and will get worse. Get a shop to check it and verify.
