Just bought a 1998 BMW 316 Se (automatic)

On taking off from stable, the car wont go more than 30/40 mph if heading uphill, and feels there is no real power behind me. Is this normal for a automatic, or would there be something wrong?
Also when sitting idle, the car is slightly vibrating??

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Cheers

get the motor checked to see if it is hitting on all cylinders.

get the cat converter checked as it may be failing not allowing the motor to breathe
