the starter continues to run, burn and smoke after the ignition is cut off.

I have a 1997 volvo 960, What could be the cause and or problem? The car will not restart while the starter is still running, but will restart once it stops. While running the starter lets off a burning smell as well as some smoke.

To figure this out your going to need a multimeter or test light.If you get one i can help you figure out your problem.
