Any OBD 2 scanner will work. However, the one you choose will be based on what your needs. Most inexpensive scanners are only designed to read engine trouble codes and none of the others. However, if you want one that can read everything, you will need deep pockets because they aren't cheap.
Thus, if you are looking for something basic to identify engine problems, most parts stores can sell you one for under 100 dollars. Actron is a common brand that is reasonable priced and works good. If you want one that can read all codes, provide live data. Expect to pay upwards of 2K dollars.
