After changing the front bearing, the ABS light has remained on. It remains so even after starting the ingition. Could it be that the terminal/ magnetic end connected to the wheel is earthing?

There are dozens of things the ABS Computer monitors. When it detects a problem, it sets a diagnostic fault code in memory and turns on the warning light. You need to find a mechanic with a scanner that can access that computer to read the codes. They will tell you which circuit or system needs further diagnosis.
