How do I know ABS is active if the engine had already been started?

When I step on the brakes ( for A/T) at times I get a feel as if the brake pedal is repelling, pushing my foot slightly though.

yep, that is abs activation usually resulting from a sensor air gap fault. you need to have it checked at a shop to verify. it could also be a broken toner ring on the axle.
