I pass through standing water few meters after kick off, changing from the low gears to lighter ones soon after emerging from the water is proving a big problem. Have to switch off engine, engage in gear 1 and start, it jumps and then drives off. Is this normal or i might be worsening/killing my car. Is the clutch ok?

Go for a drive and dry out the clutch , see how that helps things.
