alternator went bad?

My duaghter has an 97 toyota camry. The alternator went bad so I replaced it. For some reason the battery is not charging. I charged the battery and started her car then disconnected the battery to see if the car would die and it didn't, until I put a load on it. Thanks for your help

Did you have the new alternator tested before leaving the store?ALso do you have a multimeter to do some testing?
