lifters 97 sw1

Saturntech9...the engine started making noise under the valve cover on passenger side of motor when first started cold. REALLY LOUD!!! noise goes away after 30-45 seconds. my mechanic pulled vavle cover off and averything looks good.. timing chain is tight and nothing lose. he thinks that a lifter is not pumping up properly..can these be changed and how hard is it? does head have to come off? should i change all of them? thanks sw1 didnt know how to email you directly..

The best thing to do is just go back to this question and click the reply to question box and post your reply there.Instead of starting a new question like you did here.That way i get a email alert when you post a new reply.As far as the lifters go there easy to change on that engine because they ride on top of the cam instead of under the cam.To change the lifters i remove the valve cover and then lay a 3/8" drive extension across the rocker arms to hold them level.Then remove all the 10mm bolts then remove the rocker arms.Then remove the plates that hold the lifters from spining around.Then you can remove the lifters make sure you soak the new lifters in fresh oil.I would just change all the lifters.There going to be expensive since there roller lifters.You could easily change them your self if you know how to use tools.

saturntech9...thanks for your answer..ignore that last question thats coming i wasnt sure if i had done it right so i did it again..im still learning the computer...thank you very much saturnsw1
