I have a 97 Saturn sl2 5 speed I replaced the drive shaft cable and it ran great for two weeks. I had a friend replace the shift cables and it ran great for two weeks then all of a sudden I have little horse power in 1st and 2nd gear but 3,4,5,r seem fine. He got the shift cables at a junk yard. Do you think it sounds like the lower gear shift cable is bad. It goes into gear but little horsepower my Roma just shoot up

Examine the cable connections while someone moves the shifter and see if anything has slipped, broken or come loose.

Just to add to this one a common thing to happen after a cable replacement is if the H shaped clips that hold the cables to the transmission wernt installed all the way down pop off. They can look like there all the way down but arent.I agree with wrench tech though see if all the cable ends are in place there are four clips at the transmission. The the cable ends inside the car snap onto the base of the shift tower. Also did the cables you changed the cable closest to drivers seat were it goes on to the shift break? If so you could have fixed that for about 18 and saved yourself from replacing the cables.
