1997 Saturn SC2 car having problems starting

IF YOUR CAR'S STARTER IS CRANKIN'

THAT MEANS THE CRANKSHAFT IS TURNING (ENTER THE TERM "TURNING OVER")

IF IT'S TURNING OVER, IT IS SUPPOSED TO "START UP"/ "BUST OFF"/ RUN

IF ITS NOT, YOU ARE LACKING ONE OF THE FOLLOWING

A) IGNITION - SPARK (PARTS OR WIRING)

B) COMPRESSION - PRESSURE BUILT UP DURING THE COMPRESSION STROKE IN EACH CYLINDER

C) FUEL - IS THERE ANY?---IS THERE A REASON IT'S NOT MOVING FROM THE TANK TO THE INJECTORS

NO CODES?

WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY TO "ON", CAN YOU HEAR THE FUEL PUMP COME ON FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS (IT'LL BE A LOW HUM) MIGHT WANNA TRY THIS SEVERAL TIMES TO HEAR IT, THIS MIGHT LET YOU KNOW IF THE FUEL PUMP WORKS OR NOT (MIGHT BE BAD, MIGHT BE A WIRING/ RELAY/ ETC PROBLEM)

WHETHER IT WORKS OR NOT

- REVERT BACK TO THE CARBURETOR AGE OF CHECKING

GIVE IT A 2 SECOND SQUIRT OF STARTER FLUID INTO THE THROTTLE BODY

IT RUNS A SECOND/ TRIES TO?, THEN MAYBE YOU NEED TO CHASE THRU THE FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS FOR THE ANSWER

IF IT DOES NOTHING, COULD BE IN THE IGNITION COMPONENTS OF THE CAR

The fuel pumps are pretty reliable on those especially on that year what isn't is the crankshaft position sensor.See if you have spark? If you don't its most likely the crankshaft position sensor.It pretty close to under the starter towards the alternator. It sticks straight up with two wires going to it.If you have a multi meter you can ohms test it a good one reads 800-1200 ohms.Bad ones read as a open no resistance value. Also a bad coolant temp sensor can cause your crank but no start really common on those cars.If you have spark try doing this hold the gas pedal all the way to floor while trying to start it if it starts and runs pretty good then i would replace the coolant temp sensor . Also inspect the inside of the coolant temp sensor if the terminals are green or blue instead of silver then you will have to replace the coolant temp sensor connector as well.The sensors crack coolant leaks into them and they short out.If they are left like that long enough the coolant leaks into the connectors corroding the connectors.I know these cars really well.
