If the tensioner is installed improperly is it possible for it to break the idler puller and the timing cover. I had a mechanic do the work for me and that is what happen less then 2 days after the work was done. I need to know if this could have caused them to break.

If it wasn't put in right the belt wouldn't fit right and you wouldn't be driving the car.I have seen those idler pulley nipples break off the front covers before. Sometimes if the pulley was put on too tight the nipples get weak and break. Also if there over tightened and you go to remove the pulley I have seen the nipples break.
