I'm changing leaky cam cover gaskets to correct a misfire on a 2.4L Quad 4. The factory manual warns that the cam carrier gaskets must be replaced whenever the cam cover gaskets are replaced. Why is this and do you think it's necessary? The carrier gaskets are leaking only a very small amount. It's a big job and I'd like to avoid taking those off if I don't have to. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. The gaskets are thoroughly stuck to the carriers and head. The carriers won't come loose at all without some pounding, so I'm thinking what's the point in removing everything and possibly cracking them. Unless that would cause more leaks.
