I am replacing the CV joints in a Nissan Sentra 1997 MT and have the first axle off, but can't get the replacement axle back in. It's like I can't get the shaft to seat past the snap ring. The FSM calls for a special tool, but several sites and some guy at NAPA told me I shouldn't need that, I should just be able to slide it in, but it won't budge.

Is there something I am missing here?

Nevermind I figured it out. Had to whack it very hard several times with a rubber mallet and it finally clicked into place.

Remove the axle and check the clip on the end of the axle, if it is open too far then the axle will never go in becasue the clip is sprung. You can remove the clip and close it down and reinstall it, or put grease on the end of the axle to try and suspend it in the middle of the input shaft.

Please let us know what happens so it will help others

Best, Ken
