My question is...is it harmful to manually shift the transmission on an automatic continually upshifting and downshifting with the flow of traffic while driving around town? Driving a 1997 Nissan Blue Bird (stationed in Japan, USN)

Hello,

It is not particularly harmful as long you do not allow the transmission to over rev the engine or do abrupt acceleration/deceleration.
It does not do any extra wear by shifting in this manner.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
