1997 Mercury Zephyr Secondary Latch On Rear Liftgate Will Engage Opens Closes

The 'secondary' latch on the rear liftgate will not engage. Opens and closes freely. Just won't completely/securely latch upon closing.

Try to lubericate it. If that doesn't help, chances are the latch will need replaced.
