brakes whine moan pop when applying

Mercury villager when applying brakes I hear a pop and moan sound like something wound too tight what might it be. thanks

check both front and rear. A pop is an odd sound from brakes unless there is something broken. Check springs on rear, shoes, and front caliper pistons for leaks, pads, rotors....
