For sure it is a chain. Usually when they stretch, you can actually hear the chain. Other than that, it is a guess. And yes you are correct, no tensionier. The cam and crank will stay in time as long as nothing is moved. The worst part is getting to the chain. If I remember correctly, you will need to remove the bolts on the front of the oil pan too to remove the timing chain cover.

If you decide to do it, let me know and I can get you timing marks.

Ok, I now have the synchronizer tool it isnt any help, the directions say turn crankshaft till you have top dead center.I did, then put on the tool it will lock in vane I did. Then put in the motor I did. It looks like it is exactly the same way as the 1 I took out, in every way, unless im doing somthing wrong, why does the tool have 2 littel holes like the senser

I did everything right, finaly figured out the problem, car was starting 1 outa 10 trys, I had everything right evan without the tool the problem was the diagram.I had for the fire order wasnt right I was setting # 4 tdc #1 was actualy 4 plugs down in the same bank, I found a difrent diagram set tdc and it started right up and has started evrytime since, sounds good runs good but the timeing mark on the crankshaft isnt on its mark its on the outher side of the pully, so did the chain jump or is #1, #4, in one diagram it shows #1 being by the glove box, the outher diagram shows #1 being passanger side front towards headlight, if I use the diagram where #1 is to the rear of motor tdc the time mark lines up pretty close but car wont turn and eventualy will start 1 outa 10, but useing the diagram where #1 is passanger front of motor set tdc the time mark is on the bottom of pully but car starts, turns right over and sounds good runs good, should I try and figure it out or leave it alone its running good?Hmmm?

You were right? You have been blaming a cam sensor that you were advised was never the problem and you end up finding out the firing order was wrong.
