1997 Mercury Marquis Coolant leak

A few months back, I took my car in as the engine light was on. I was told the thermometer was reading bad, a quick fix, but I thought it was a therm control cabin comfort. I now have a coolant leak, with coolant visible on the top of the engine in small pools.
