I can't get my stabilizer link bolts to tighten down

I have a 97 mazda protege lx and .I've used an allen wrench to hold the stud ,but it only goes so far. the bolts will tighten to a certain extent ,but then they get so tight that I actually stripped the allen wrench hole in the center of the stud,

Are you sure that isn't as far as they should be? Are you cross threading?
