Basic steps to obtain what must be done to fix engine

97 Lexus es 300 coming off freeway what sounded like lifter right front while idleling low noise, on acceleration noise louder it was driven until it sounded like a stalled not froze. After trying to start it nothing. Now starting to take off valve cover to obtain problem need advice would that be lifter, oil pump failer, or timing chain failure.

You may not be able to determine from the valve cover. See if you can turn the motor by hand first. If it does not, then I would look at replacing with a used motor. Repairing it would not be cost effective.

Engine is belt driven and if it is seized, it should be lubricating
fault and I agree with Roy about a new engine.

How is the oil condition and level?
