I have a 1997 Kia Sportage. I have had it for about 3 years now and I have never had a problem with my steering until now. When I go to turn, its really hard to turn the steering wheel. I did check my power steering fluid and it was full. I don't know cars very well but I know there is SOMETHING wrong with my steering.

If you have no power assist in either direction and it affected turning both ways at the same time, suspect the pump, but first be sure the belt is tight. If at any time you did have power assist one way but not the other, that is due to internal leakage in the steering gear. Eventually it will affect turning both ways.

Thank you for getting back to me. I don't have any power assist in either direction. I will check the belt first to make sure it is tight.
