Aligning timing marks

Changing water pump and timing belt. Can't get the old belt marks (original-intact) to line up with the marks on the pulleys according to manual diagram. Do I keep turning the crankshaft clockwise until all the marks line up?
(Core problem is with the water pump) Vehicle runs.

I am attaching the process below on how to replace the water pump just in case you need this info as well.

Also, below are the timing marks you need to make sure are lined up. You need to turn the engine in the direction that the crank spins so you can pump it over and confirm this is clockwise, but I am pretty sure it is.

So, you may be checking this number 1 is not on TDC, so the marks are not going to line up.

However, just to be clear if the engine runs, is there a reason you are trying to get the marks to line up?
