When I put my manual trans-axle into 5th gear and drive on down the road. It will slip out of gear by its self. I notice that it does it sometimes when the rpms drop a little. Also sometimes the lower gears are hard to shift into.

Bad syncro in the transmission. It will have to come out and most likely be re built

You can access the 5th gear by removing the end case with trans in car. Apart from bad synchro gears, a loose lock nut and worn needle bearings can cause that and replacement can be done on car.
