BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER

I have a 1997 civic dx 1.6 cyl engine.I got a check engine light and took it to my local mechanic. My mechanic stated my catalytic converter.I went to locat honda dealer given prive of part is around 700.00 and labor 200.00. Can I use an aftermarket catalytic converter areound 275.00. Will the aftermarket catalytic converter work and if not is there any way to save some money on this repair

If you do need a cat check around for the best price and you can use an aftermarket cat some are direct fit and some are universal. If universal it will take some work to make it fit but not to bad. Also find out what caused the cat to go bad and if there is any other problems
