1997 honda accord station wagon has a small hole in the head gasket. Repair shop wants to do an epoxy and oil fix to do a temp fix. To replace the head gasket they want $2500. Is this too much for a head gasket repair?

I'm more familiar with Chrysler products but cost should be about the same. A typical head gasket job used to run around $400.00 to $700.00 on a four cylinder engine as long as there were no damaged valves. Valves can be damaged on some engines when the timing belt breaks, not just from a leaking head gasket. It would be more expensive if the cylinder head was cracked or was warped and needed to be straightened.

You confused me when you said the head gasket has a small hole in it. They have a whole bunch of holes put there on purpose. You would not be able to see other holes, (leaks) caused by corrosion until it is removed. Did you mean to say the head has a hole? Depending on where it is and what is leaking, aluminum heads can be welded, or an epoxy patch might hold just fine. "JB Weld" is one very popular trade name in the automotive repair world.
