electrical problem?

Son is Driving 97 Accord for 1 hour, 2 hours to go before home. Check engine light came on and speedometer went to 0; now speedometer is intermitent, going up and down; light to indicate gear (D, N, etc.) is blinking. No noises or obvious performance problems. What should he do?

Your first step is go get it scanned for codes.Let me know the exact code numbers not code descriptions.You could have a bad speed sensor.
