Im so sorry to hear of your wife. My positive thoughts go out to you and her. The cars a tough one. Id start with the fuses and relays. Take each and every one out one at a time and check smell them for a burnt smell. Look at the plugs and the sockets they go into. Loose sockets can fail when hot due to increased resistance. Then if you know where or can find out where the ECM is check the plugs and wires on that too. Im in America and don't have access to opel info though its basically a General Motors product. Doesn't matter. Electrical is the same on cars no matter the make. After this unplugging and reinserting bother, drive it again. If it fails again get out and fiddle with wires and smell around. See if you get it going again without waiting as you have before. You may want to let it idle at home until it reaches that temp and cuts off so youre not stranded somewhere. Try wiggling the gearshift and ignition key too, anything to isolate where the problem comes from. Good luck, I await your report
