will tranny from 89 gmc truck hook up and work properly for my 97 gmc truck?

tranny had loud whine and minor slipping. changed filter and fluid. approx 5 months later it appears torque converter is very bad. what model years will hook up and work properly for me?

not unless the 89 trnas is electronic and i don't think it is. the plug and things inside will be different. check int ot 96 and up they will probably work, due to yours beig an OBDII model teh 89 isn't.
